Feed before or after bath?

My husband and I are going to Attempt to bathe our 11 day old for the first time today. Wish us luck! Judy wondering, should I feed him before the bath or wait til after? Any other advice to make it a pleasurable experience for the little guy?

@NikaY3,

You could do it during!

@NikaY3,

Out first bath (17 days) our LO loved it. Second bath ( 21 days) not so much because she was hungry.

Maybe do a half and half?

@NikaY3,

I feed him and keep him awake for about 30-45 minutes and then we give him his bath. He enjoys it and he's not hungry. Then after bath time we read a book or two or play for a little bit before nursing to sleep.

@dmeier5950,

I was thinking if half and half. Will post how it went. I'm a bit scared to bathe him!

I don't know if you have this or not, but we turn on the heat fan in our bathroom and close the doors to trap the heat a few min before bath time. Also, I was surprised how warm the water actually can be. My DS loves bath time and I'm convinced it'd bc we made the first time so warm and cozy.

@NikaY3,

I do a feed play sleep routine so I feed before bath. So bath time would be part of the playtime or wake time. Seems to work out well. Give baby the bath in the evening so it calms him/her down and then put to sleep shortly after.

@NikaY3,

Do it after, and have a hand towel in the water covering his torso while you bathe other parts of his body to keep him warm. It helps keep them calmer.

@NikaY3,

We have a small heater we put in the bathroom to keep it toasty. And I have to feed after or he'll spit it up everywhere in the bath which kinda defeats the purpose of cleaning him :) It's nice though cause he's all cute and baked so we feed skin to skin and he's nice and relaxed.

We feed after. DD was in the NICU 3 weeks and we just got in the habit of bath then feed after to calm her and warm her up with my body heat. She probably doesn't need the body heat part any more but she loves having a nice long feed after then she sleeps nice and long.
